Buzzcocks - Spiral Scratch, Another Music In A Different Kitchen, Love Bites, A Different Kind Of Tension, Singles Going Steady, The Peel Sessions Album, Live At The Roxy Club April '77 & Entertaining Friends

Buzzcocks were a British punk band formed in Bolton in 1976.
Howard Devoto and Pete Shelley chose the name "Buzzcocks" after reading the headline, "It's the Buzz, Cock!", in a review of the TV series Rock Follies in Time Out magazine. The "buzz" is the excitement of playing on stage; "cock" is northern English slang meaning "friend".
By the end of the year, Buzzcocks had recorded and released a four-track EP, "Spiral Scratch", on their own New Hormones label, making them one of the first punk bands to establish an independent record label.
Devoto left the band in 1977 to form Magazine, after which Pete Shelley became the principal singer-songwriter.

Their original career produced three LPs: Another Music In A Different Kitchen, Love Bites and A Different Kind Of Tension, each supported by extensive touring in the U.S.A. and Europe.
Their trademark sound were catchy pop melodies with punk guitar energy, backed by an unusually tight and skilled rhythm section. They advanced drastically in musical and lyrical sophistication: by the end they were quoting writer William S. Burroughs ("A Different Kind Of Tension"), declaiming their catechism in the anthem "I Believe" and tuning in to a fantasy radio station on which their songs could be heard ("Radio Nine").
In 1980, Liberty Records signed the band and released three singles.
After recording demos for a fourth album the band disbanded in 1981, when Shelley took up a solo career.

Band members:
Peter Campbell McNeish (Pete Shelley) - guitar, vocals
Steve Diggle - guitar
Stephen Garvey - bass
John Maher - drums
Howard Andrew Trafford (Howard Devoto) - vocals (April 1976 - February 1977)
Garth Smith - bass (April 1976 - November 1977).

"Spiral Scratch" is an EP and the first release by Buzzcocks.
The band, having no record label support, had to borrow £500 from their friends and families to pay for the record's production and manufacture.
The EP was released on 29 January 1977 on the band's own New Hormones label.
The EP is the only Buzzcocks studio release with original singer Howard Devoto, who left shortly after its release to form Magazine.
