Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures, Closer, Still, Warsaw, Preston 28 February 1980, The Complete BBC Recordings, Les Bains Douches 18 December 1979 & + − Singles 1978-80
Joy Division were a British rock band formed in 1976 in Salford and Macclesfield, Greater Manchester.
They were incorrectly named Stiff Kittens on the flyer for their first gig alongside Buzzcocks and Penetration, but announced themselves as Warsaw at the start of their first performance.
Throughout 1977 they continued as Warsaw up to recording their first EP, but changed their name to Joy Division at the start of 1978, before self-releasing their debut 7" EP "An Ideal For Living".
The 7" EP drew the attention of the Manchester television personality Tony Wilson, who signed them to his independent label Factory Records.
Joy Division were scheduled to commence their first U.S./Canada tour in May 1980. After the suicide of Ian Curtis on 18 May 1980, the remaining members changed the band name and re-formed as New Order.
