Subway Sect - What's The Matter Boy? & We Oppose All Rock 'n' Roll (1976–1980)

Subway Sect were a British punk band and formed in 1976 in London.
The first line-up of Vic Godard on vocals, Ray Price on drums (Price was replaced later in 1976 by Paul Packham), Paul Myers on bass and Rob Symmons on guitar lasted for four gigs before Mark Laff replaced Paul Packham. Laff himself then left for Generation X after the White Riot tour.

A third drummer, Bob Ward, was recruited and it is this line-up that can be heard on the band's first John Peel session (broadcast 24/10/77) and also on the singles "Nobody's Scared" and "Ambition".
However, just as their first album was ready for release on Braik Records, for reasons that remain obscure, the label's owner Bernie Rhodes sacked all the band (except Godard) and Subway Sect ceased to exist. The album was never released.

Vic Godard reformed the band in 1980 and as "Vic Godard And Subway Sect" finally released their debut album "What's the Matter, Boy?". The album features many songs written during the previous incarnation of the band, but performed with radically altered arrangements.

"What's The Matter Boy?" is the debut album by Vic Godard And Subway Sect, released in 1980 on MCA Records/Oddball Productions. The album was reissued in 2000 on Universal.
